Enemy AI

Enemy AI To think about:

Impaired
Enemies that are "Blind" (They respond to movement but not to your presence) i.e. Old Hero, Gears of War thingy, (a la Predator where Arnold is covered in mud) or playing a game of Red light/Green light)

Enhanced (change the rules)
Enemies that can move through geometry (i.e. spirits through walls) of can use water (serpents ultima) or fire (balrog Ultima)

Immunity
Enemies that are immune to normal weapons (i.e. they have to be killed by "special weapons" or the environment (Ultima 5 shadowlords glass sword) Oblivion ghosts.

Territorial
Enemies that don't care about you unless you enter thier territory guards,. etc.

Hit & Run (Thieves)
Enemies that Steal/Poison/Curse and run away (their goal isnt to hurt you but rather steal/poison/curse you) i.e. they blind you/steal gold or items (a la Golden Axe)

To Death
Enemies that fight you to the death (pretty much most enemies in AI nowadays)

Summoners
Enemies that call in reinforcements (God of War 2, Xivalvi Oblivion )

Suicidal/Kamakazi
Enemies who rho run straight at you and explode to cause damage (Serious Sam Bombers)

Retreat/Avoid
Run from you at all costs (Leprechauns) dont attempt to do damage (Deer in Oblivion, Crystal Geckos)

Passive
Don't fire unless fired upon (Bison FalloutNV)

Ranged
Keep thier distance and used ranged attacks only (archers)

Splitters
Enemies that when attacked and not killed split into 2 (slimes in Ultima)

Triggered (basically territorial)
Gargoyles
Mimics (Fake Treasure Chests)
Guards after you steal something in Ultima

Organized/Group
Enemies that attack in groups (those things in Dead Space)

Environmental
Enemies that change the environment (i.e. light ground on fire, etc. that causes damage)
good examples of these might be fire elementals who can light the ground on fire where they move...
so if they are retreating you have to run through the wake/trail of fire to do backstabs. also they may retreat go back into fire to regain health.

Dragons that can shoot out arcs of fire lighting the ground on fire

Responsive
Evaluates what you are doing to counter it

Hybrid
Aggressive/Retreat : Might get up close and do melee until health is low and change to Retreat/Avoid

--- how about some enemies, (when they are hurt) might retreat to homebase (and this is how you can find your way to treasure)... gremlins and leprechans (i.e. find the nest)

--bystanders who dont interfere unless disturbed

Resources...Crafting... Repairing...Identifying...Upgrading

Repair (more instant)
Craft These things take time... (especially for trying to imbue or upgrade rare and legendary items)
Craftsmen could be gods or deities that you need to win favor to craft
Dangerous Crafts (might explode or unleash  curses or side effects)
Multiple people (Swordsmith & Armorer and Mage) might need to mess with weapon

Resources
Souls
Get Ore
Farming Resources (Ore, skins, etc.) might require you to have special things equip
i.e. Pickaxe, "Soul Stones"

Sometimes you need to kill in a certain way to get resources
stealth  backstab (cripple and kill without destroying armor, weapons)
    non-poison
non magical (using magical attacks might curse or poison resources or cause them to explode
for instance if you kill a fire golem with ice/water you get no drops with brimstone
(in this way it makes the fight more difficult, but more rewarding)
also, for people who routinely use "curse" "poison cloud" or "death cloud" or "acid cloud" type spells, note that it
causes drops to be cursed, damaged, poisoned, etc. and to remove those effects may be difficult

sometimes you need to "disarm" things to get resources
   disarm traps
   poison plant/cactus
   fishing (net)
   tree axe

Identify
some items can use identity scrolls
...some items require specialists (monks, mages, etc.) to help you identify
... some items are identified as "cursed/possesed" and will do you harm if you equip them
...you can equip unidentified items, but you get lessened effects (and they might harm you)
...sometimes the mage/monk/priest will tell you to bring an offering to a deity to uncurse
...some items only give you bonuses when they are "set up"
...some items will give you bonuses because you are of a specific race/type or have alegence to a specific god or deity (they are possessed and you need to be worthy of the gift)
Spirits to posses (trap souls into swords/armor)
crafted items
Set and Random Properties
Drops and combining
Items to help in craft (Red hot demons souls)
Items might "set up" meaning you might get a sword that conducts electricity and if you have other metallic items you get a bonus on damage
items might have modifiers based on Strength, Dexterity, Magic
